Compatibility of formulations and materials in the medical field

Interactions between biomolecules (therapeutic proteins, nucleic acids) and the materials of the containers in which they are produced, stored and used raise issues concerning the stability of therapeutic formulations and the performance of medical devices. We study the structural conformation and aggregation of therapeutic proteins at interfaces. We analyze the phenomena of adsorption/desorption and molecular competition (proteins, surfactants, etc.) on material surfaces. We exploit the interaction of biomolecules with materials in order to optimize medical diagnosis and therapy strategies. To measure these phenomena at interfaces, we use interface-sensitive methods (SPRi, QCMd, IR) and develop new methods for in situ quantification of protein adsorption on medical and other materials.
