Optimization of high Performance nano-architectured electrode/electrolyte bilayer for Solid Oxide Cells (OPEN SOC project)


Goals
  • Develop novel electrode/electrolyte architectures with improved performance, i.e low Area Specific Resistance (ASR)
  • Understand and quantify the combined effects on ASR of architecture, enhance ionic conductivity and enhance ORR kinetics

Model development and FEM simulations:
  • Simulations on COMSOL Multiphysics

Deposition, characterization and tuning of the electrolyte and electrode materials:
  • Dense polycrystalline, strained epitaxial and dense-porous hierarchical films
  • X-ray diffraction (Theta-2theta, GIXRD, Reflectometry), atomic force microscopy and electron microscopy (FEG-SEM, TEM)
 
Functional electrical and electrochemical properties of the µ-SOCs:
  • Conductivity measurements vs temperature (Van der Pauw),
  • Electrical conductivity relaxation (ECR),
  • Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)
  • Degradation measurements as a function of time (electrodes films or electrode/electrolyte half-cells)
