JK's research interest lies in Materials Science, at the interface between Solid-State-Physics and -Chemistry, with a particular interest for Functional oxides, Smart Materials, Phase transitions and an internationally recognized expertise in optical spectroscopy.
The overall objective of JK's current research is to acquire a broad knowledge of coupling phenomena in multifunctional materials with the aim of discovering new general concepts, clearing the way for both understanding and applications.
Current research projects are focused on Coupling in multiferroic materials, Photovoltaic and Photostrictive Properties of functional oxides, Strain-Engineering in thin films and nano-structured oxides, Phase transitions in oxide and non-oxide materials, Metal-insulator (MI) phase transitions, Instrumentation and metrology of optical spectroscopy and microscopy.
