Abstract
Solid oxide cells (SOCs) exhibiting high performance and stability are necessary for fully harnessing their potential as a key technology for highly efficient energy conversion. This talk will highlight the research being conducted on materials development for SOCs at GZR/AIST, focusing on tuning heterointerfaces and nanostructuring strategies developed over the years to obtain innovative high-performance electrodes. An overview of the research facilities at the GZR research center, featuring cutting-edge technologies for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, will also be included.

Short Bio/CV
Katherine Develos-Bagarinao is a Chief Senior Researcher in the Global Zero Emission Research Center (GZR) at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tsukuba, Japan. Her current research focuses on the development of innovative materials for solid oxide cell applications, as well as advanced characterization techniques for understanding degradation mechanisms governing behavior of surfaces and heterointerfaces. She has published over 100 papers on topics as diverse as high-Tc superconductors, functional oxide buffer layers, and application of secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) for SOCs. She obtained her PhD from Yamagata University (1999), MS and BS in Physics from the University of the Philippines (1996 and 1994, respectively).
